Promdi [prom-dee]
adjective; Filipino slang 1. Provincial; 2. A person who just moved to the city from the province
usage Promdi is used by people in the city, normally Manila, to insultingly or jokingly describe people from the countryside who still exhibit characteristics normally thought of as provincial, such as the wide-eyed innocence (gullibility) and the easy trust given to strangers (neighborliness).
People from the provinces are humble, respectful, loving and funny people, but they are usually made fun of when they first move to the city. They are stereotyped from the moment people see them with their outdated outfits, from the moment they speak with their thick accents and usage of “f” and “p”.
